There are six major stair cases to ascend the heights of the precincts of the Hie Jinja and the San'nō Inari Jinja.

1. 日枝神社正門鳥居 男坂

Stairs leading to the memorial. The Fifty Martyrs of Edo were martyred here on 4 Dec. 1623.

御嶽神社 Mitake jinja (temple) atop the  宮益坂 Miyamasu Escarpment in Shibuya

宮益坂   Miyamasu zaka (slope) in Shibuya 1-12-16 (50 steps)
During the shrine's September festival, a portable shrine is carried down and up these stairs.

The main sanctuary is guarded by a pair of extinct Japanese wolves.
There is a memorial to the last wolf killed by hunters in 1905 in Higashiyoshino, Nara Prefecture with the haiku:
"I walk/ With that wolf/ That is no more"

銅造役の行者倚像 Dōzō ekinogyōsha izō
The bronze statue is a Tangible Cultural Property of Meguro City and has very shiny knees.

The bottom of the 女坂 Onna-zaka Stairs. On the right, looking down with stairs on the right for pilgrims to rejoin the women's slope after visiting (and perhaps rubbing the knees of) the ascetic.
